Brenda graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from Humboldt State University. She then went on to law school at Pepperdine University, graduating in 1990. On December 5, 1990, she was admitted to the California State Bar.
Brenda began practicing law as an associate attorney with Cunningham & Lansden in Oxnard, CA focusing on Family Law. In 1994, when the firm opened the office in Yuba City, Brenda and her husband moved to Yuba County. By 1997, Brenda had established a name for herself and took over the office as a sole practitioner focusing on family law and estate planning. With nearly 30 years’ experience, Brenda continues to provide legal services to the community.
On a more personal note, Brenda is outgoing and energetic. Not one to sit still for long, Brenda and her husband are kept busy caring for their many pets. Currently, they have 3 horses, 2 dogs, and 4 cats. They have also installed quite a few birdhouses around their yard and must fill several bird feeders daily to keep up with the demands that different bird species have. Many of her pets, both current and past have been rescued. Brenda prefers to spend her spare time riding horses. She also enjoys painting, photography, reading, and traveling. Some of her paintings and photos are displayed in her office. Brenda has an innate ability for interior design and fashion, with a particular fondness for shoes.
Brenda encourages kids to live up to their potential. She has been a sponsor of Little League teams in the area, horse sanctuaries and for the past 10 years has been a buyer at the Yuba Sutter Fair which supports local 4-H and FFA members.
Kathy Helm - Office Manager
Kathy and her husband moved to Yuba City in 1996 with their three young sons. They took an active part in their kid’s schools and the local Little League. Kathy was fortunate to be able to spend time helping in the kid’s classrooms. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom after moving here. She enjoyed raising their boys, one of whom has autism. A few of her favorite spare time activities include reading and crocheting.
Kathy joined the office in 2001 and quickly became an important part of the team. Her personal and professional experiences make it easy for her to relate to others. Raising a special needs child and working closely with other special needs children has provided Kathy with a personal understanding of the challenges families with special needs children face. With a warm, friendly personality and a great sense of humor, Kathy can help guide clients through a difficult time.
